Family Firm EastRen
‘The Family Firm is about getting the best from the range of opportunities available locally to support improved learning, training and employment for Looked After young people and care leavers'.2011 Scottish Government Guidelines to Corporate Parents and Employers
What is Family Firm at EastRen?
As Corporate Parents, we have a responsibility to support our care experienced young people to reach their potential through employment and training. The Family Firm programme exists to bring together a range of Corporate Parents (both internally and externally) to create and ring-fence opportunities to help our care experienced young people in East Renfrewshire with their next steps to a positive destination.
Why we do this?
Looked After and Accommodated Children are one of our most vulnerable groups and outcomes for this group of young people have always been well below their peers nationally. Our Family Firm programme aims to ensure that all East Renfrewshire’s young people have the same opportunities by supporting the transition to employment.
What we offer?
The Family Firm programme offers tailored work placements for young people who would benefit from the opportunity to spend time in a particular working environment as well as providing bespoke and holistic employability support. The idea behind this is to increase our young people’s work readiness skills, develop their confidence in the world of the work and to progress them into sustainable employment or further training and education.
Pre-placement, the Family Firm Coordinator will work closely with the young people and a range of partners to help develop employability skills through taster sessions, work coaching, further training, job application and interview support and signposting to relevant agencies.
