Job Purpose

To provide assistance in the day to day running of Enchanted Forest Nursery and ensure the effective operation of the service is maintained and improved upon. Ensure staff provide all children attending the nursery with a high quality of care, are kept safe and receive rich and stimulating play experiences which meet their needs and promote development.  This role will be solely playroom based with particular focus on organising the full operation of a specific room or area within the setting.

Education:

Essential:

 Qualification to meet the requirements of SSSC registration for Practitioner

 

Desirable:

  • SVQ Level 4 or PDA in Childcare/Education
  • SVQ3 or HND in Childcare/Education
  • First Aid qualification
  • Health & Safety qualification
  • Food hygiene qualification

 

Experience:

Essential:

Post-qualification practical experience

 

Desirable:

  • Experience of working in more than one childcare setting
  • Experience of leading a playroom
  • Experience of mentoring Modern Apprentices
  • Experience of working within internal nursery committees/groups
  • Experience of working with regulatory and partner organisations during inspections/visits
  • Experience of cash handling

 

Knowledge and Skills:

Essential

 

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and the ability to implement related guidelines
  • Demonstrable knowledge of promoting a positive environment
  • Sound knowledge of curricular planning and practice
  • Up to date working knowledge of procedures relating to Child Protection, GIRFEC, Additional Support Needs, Equal Opportunities and Child Development
  • Knowledge of the behaviour characteristics and needs of children at all ages to ensure child development
  • Ability to positively motivate children, families and staff
  • Proven ability of sound organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to use computer packages (all Microsoft)
  • Ability to retain confidentiality

 

Special Requirements

 Essential

  • Adherence to the SSSC Code to Conduct
  • Able to accommodate the flexible working hours that may be required
  • Ability to be a nursery key holder and attend emergency call-outs outwith core hours and at weekends

 

Desirable

 Driving licence
