Programme Outline: The Lifeskills programme concentrates on supporting young people to develop skills for employment. It has been designed to give young people the opportunity to participate in an informal training experience. The programme will provide young people with the chance to:

  • Gain experience in hairdressing techniques
  • Gain practical skills that can be transferred into various workplaces/further education opportunities
  • Develop communication, problem solving and team working skills
  • Enhance self esteem, increase confidence and personal awareness
  • Work alongside other people in a mock workplace

The programme is developed and facilitated by the Council’s Community Learning and Development Staff in partnership with a local independent Hair Design Specialist.

The course has been SCQF credit rated by the SQA and will give participants a more ‘formal’ qualification to take forward into training and/or employment.

Young people will participate in a 20-26 week programme (two half day sessions per week). The participants are required to commit to the full programme and will be able to present a portfolio of work to the appropriate awarding body.
