Community Jobs Scotland (CJS) was designed and developed in partnership between SCVO and the Scottish Government to support vulnerable young people into sustainable
employment through providing meaningful paid employment. SCVO work with a wide range of third sector organisations to create a variety of jobs across a range of different sectors throughout Scotland. These include green jobs, retail, sport, social care, hospitality, digital and administration.

Jobs are aimed towards vulnerable people aged 16- 29 who are unemployed and not on the Work Programme, Work Choice, Work First, Work Able, Specialist Employment Support and have not previously been on Community Jobs Scotland.

To be eligible for CJS individuals should meet one of the following:

  • Young person with a disability or health condition
  • Young carer
  • Care experienced
  • Young person with convictions
  • Early service leaver from Armed Forces (having served less than 6 years)
  • Work Programme completers who remain unemployed
  • Young person affected by Substance Misuse

Employers will commit to providing:

  • A high quality support system,
  • On the job training,
  • Support and supervision,
  • Job search support
  • Ongoing focus on assisting the young person into sustainable employment.

All jobs offer a minimum of 25 hours paid work per week and pay at least £5.60 or the National Minimum Wage applicable to the age although employers are encouraged to offer more hours and pay the Living Wage. Jobs will last for up to 1 year.
