Case Study

Youth Employability and Sustainability Course

Background

Kayleigh is a very bright and mature young person, who maintains a home and is keen to develop a career for herself. However since leaving school a year ago she has struggled to find the right job and is confused about the types of courses she could take. This lack of knowledge is holding her back from starting on the right career path for herself. Kayleigh also lacks confidence in herself and her own abilities and struggles to do well in interviews.

The Outcome

Kayleigh used the skills and confidence that the course gave her in an interview and started a new job a week after the course finished. She also had a clearer idea what courses she could get onto and was going to apply for her chosen college as well.

The Course

During the course the team at Work EastRen gave Kayleigh lots on information on the types of further education she could do and carried out individual and group activities to build her confidence and give her a more positive “can do” attitude for the future. Also included was a three day work placement which gave her useful experience and confidence in her ability.

Applying for the Course

Kayleigh spoke to her adviser at Job Centre Plus who had a flyer advertising the Youth Employability and Sustainability Course, run by Work EastRen. This course aims to support young people to get on the right career path, whether that be getting a job or getting the right qualifications.
