Ewan MacLeod previously worked as an apprentice with a goldsmith, then on a production line before doing some volunteer work with Oxfam. However he felt that he hadn’t yet found his ideal job, hadn’t worked for a while and didn’t have the confidence to apply for the types of jobs he was interested in. He wanted to get into the hospitality industry but didn’t know how to go about it, and felt quite demoralised. He also felt that his CV needed updating as well as his interview skills, as these were holding him back.
Following the course Ewan feels that the skills and qualification that he gained will help in getting a position within the hospitality industry. The after care support from the Work EastRen team will help him over the next few months as he applies for jobs and attends interviews.
The STRIVE into Hospitality course included lots of team building and communication exercises, to allow candidates to recognize their own abilities and skills that future employers would want. One to one coaching improved interview skills to teach them how to be successful and Ewan also updated his CV with help from the course team. He also gained certificates in Customer Service, Food Hygiene and Health & Safety.
Ewan saw a leaflet whilst he was with his job coach at Job Centre Plus in Barrhead, and called the team at Work EastRen to arrange an interview. The course was perfect for him as he specifically wanted a route into the hospitality sector and felt that this course would get him there.
