Graham Boyd from Neilston had worked in the retail sector for the past 7 years, but wanted to move into construction. He had some experience, having worked in scaffolding and completed a previous course in roofing, but lacked the financial support to gain his Pasma and CSCS qualifications. His confidence was low, having been unemployed for the last year, and he felt that this was also holding him back.
Following this course Graeme now has all the qualifications and experience that he needs to further his career and is confident that this is going to lead onto the future that he wants.
The course itself covered all the basic skills that are required in the construction sector as well as giving him an SVQ in Health and Safety Level 1 in Constrction, CSCS card and a Pasma ticket. In addition the course included a 3 week work placement which Graeme felt was invaluable in giving him great experience for getting a permanent position.
Graeme heard about this construction course run by Work EastRen from his adviser at the Job Centre Plus, who gave him a flyer on it. Once he completed an interview with the team he was delighted to be offered a place on the course.
