Ciaran's career journey so far

I have gained excellent experience of working in a busy kitchen. I have learned all the basic duties involved in running a kitchen from housekeeping, basic food prep, stock control, customer service and health and safety procedures. All my co-workers were a great help, using a buddy system to get me started and really taking me under their wings.

What would you say to employers thinking about recruiting Modern Apprentices?

Choose someone who has a passion for the role, is hardworking, keen to learn and always up for a challenge.

What made you choose a Modern Apprenticeship?

I chose a Modern Apprenticeship because it is a way of learning as you work. I was getting paid and learning life skills at the same time.

Do you have any words of advice for young people considering a Modern Apprenticeship?

Modern Apprenticeships are a great way to further your knowledge in your chosen career path as you are constantly learning new things.

It offers young people a decent wage whilst they are learning and work experience which is invaluable.

What do you feel are the key benefits of the Modern Apprenticeship programme?

In the future I would like to work in the catering industry as a chef.

As part of my training, I learned how to make various soups, bake shortbread and also how to create a few dishes like frittata. These cooking skills have since helped me secure full-time employment in my chosen sector after leaving the Modern Apprenticeship programme.
