Donald had been a carer for both parents and had been unemployed for about a year. He always had an interest in working in the care sector and had done odd jobs such as being a postman in the past. He had no idea how to get into a job in the care sector as he did not have the job experience. He said “because I had been off work for so long I felt I was completely out the way of it”.
I am pleased with the outcome of the course and I am feeling a lot more optimistic.
When a flyer for the Prepare to Care course came through his door he spoke to his advisor at the Job Centre and successfully applied for a place on it. He attended the three-week training course which included completing a Manual Handling Course and gained knowledge of the equipment used within the Care sector. He also gained a First Aid Certificate. He then completed a work placement to put his new skills into practice.
After demonstrating his enthusiasm and new skills within his placement, Donald was offered a full-time role for the same employer. He said “I am pleased with the outcome of the course and I am feeling a lot more optimistic” and plans to study towards for an SVQ Level 2 to continue to develop in the role.
