Business Improvement Districts (BID)
The Clarkston Town Centre Business Improvement District is made up of some 132 businesses centred round Clarkston Toll and the Sheddens Roundabout. Located in East Renfrewshire it was put forward for a BID by East Renfrewshire Chamber of Trade and Commerce. The BID is working to complete a business-led programme of investment to tackle issues identified by businesses, with the aim of increasing the number of people shopping, visiting, working and investing in Clarkston town centre.
Giffnock has become Scotland’s 20th BID following a successful ballot. Businesses gave staunch backing to plans to support Giffnock by delivering a ‘Yes’ vote for Scotland’s latest Business Improvement District (BID). There are 64 businesses in the Giffnock BID area.
The Giffnock BID business plan was developed in consultation with businesses and shoppers and as a result of this BID projects will include the creation of new annual events to bring shoppers to the area, a new website and social media presence, a marketing campaign to promote the area, improved signage and participation in a review of parking. New ‘mall signs’ will be installed and a new retail forum will be created to allow issues and opportunities to be discussed between the businesses.
Barrhead Town Centre has become Scotland’s 36th Business Improvement District in July 2016. There are 145 businesses and organisations within the BID area. It starts at the Health Centre on Main Street, runs west to Tesco and Kelburn Street shopping centre, then south along Cross Arthurlie Street, ending opposite Barrhead Train Station at 6 Carlibar Road.
The BID’s aims are to have a cohesive approach to marketing the town centre and encouraging the community to shop local, to improve perceptions and the experience of the town centre, support businesses to reduce costs and seek grants that will help build their business, improve employment chances of the community, improve the diversity of offer, and connect the significant new town developments to the town centre.
